5th carpometacarpal joint dislocation

Swollen hand at 2 am in the morning.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Right 5th carpometacarpal joint dislocation. There is a minimally displaced oblique fracture through the base of the third metacarpal. No further fractures or dislocations are identified.


Post-reduction and casting

The right 5th carpometacarpal joint has been reduced and alignment is anatomical. Fracture at the base of the third metacarpal is unchanged in alignment.

This case also demonstrates a base of 3rd metacarpal fracture, which is a commonly associated injury.
