Multiple solid fusiform masses along the distribution of nerves infiltrating throughout the hepatic hilum, small bowel mesentery and greater omentum. They are seen showing homogeneous low attenuation.
Histologically proven case of abdominal nerve sheath tumors (schwannoma).
A biopsy obtained from the epigastric mass with the histology showed:
- fragments of pseudocapsulated bland-looking proliferated spindle cells with wavy nuclei and elongated eosinophilic cytoplasm
- focal palisading
- sections with cord-like structures proved to be nerve bundle surrounded by fibrofatty tissue entangling small nerve bundles
- no atypia or malignancy
- marker study revealed positive reaction to S-100
