Impacted wisdom teeth - cone beam CT

Case contributed by Dr Matthew Lukies

Bilateral dental pain on the background of recent relapse of B-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (B-ALL) on chemotherapy.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Female
  • Metallic streak artefact from the dental braces
  • Mesially impacted lower third molars (wisdom teeth)
  • No periodontal infection
  • A small volume of mucous in the bilateral maxillary sinuses

Case Discussion

The patient's pain in this case was due to impacted lower third molars (wisdom teeth). This was initially managed conservatively during the acute phase of treatment for the B-ALL relapse, then several months later when her immune system had recovered, all four wisdom teeth were removed.
