Multiple well-circumscribed bone lytic lesions.

Case Discussion

This patient was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. This neoplasia results from the monoclonal proliferation of malignant plasma cells which produce immunoglobulins (commonly IgG) and infiltrate hematopoietic locations.

Disseminated multiple myeloma has two common radiological appearances:

  • numerous, well circumscribed lytic bone lesions: more common (like this case)
  • generalized osteopenia: less common
